Civil society criticizes Kimberley Process for monitoring the diamond trade

The Kimberley Process for monitoring the diamond trade has earned praise as a model for cooperation between governments, businesses and civil society. One of the three sides, however, is now considering withdrawal. Civil society organisations are backing away in protest against the scheme’s failure to sanction human rights violations by governments’ security forces and by private sector companies.
